11.3.09 - Shelley Oates-Wilding comes behind Lifestart Kayak for Kids!
Former dual Olympic kayaker and World Champion in surf ski and outrigger canoeing Shelley Oates-Wilding has thrown her support behind Lifestart’s Kayak for Kids. Shelley will paddle the event with her son Kai, who is following in his parents footsteps and at 11 is already a state gold medalist. Shelley, a mother of two, is a highly sought-after sports trainer and motivational speaker. When asked if she was concerned about sharks on the paddle, Shelley replied: “I have paddled Sydney Harbour for 20 years and have never seen a shark. And the safety conditions under which this paddle is being conducted both in time of day and patrol craft make it very safe - and the kayaks we will be using are very hard to fall out of.”

25.2.09 - Don't miss out on the PaddleNSW familiarisation paddles!
One of the ways PaddleNSW is supporting the Lifestart Kayak for Kids annual fundraising event is by offering familiarisation paddles for participants. The Lane Cove River Kayakers Club and River Canoe Clubs will run "famils" for the four legs during the four weekends prior to the race.
For each "famil" you must be a member or join at the start and pay $10 for each event. Allow about 2 hours for the one-way paddle be sure to have land crew for pick up at completion. You will need to complete a short kayaking basic skills course (refer below for professional instructors or River Canoe Club basic skills events) and read the information website page Introduction to Paddling
PFDs are compulsory. Boat and equipment hire must be arranged at least 48 hours before the event. Register your interest with admin@paddleNSW.org.au 7 days prior to the leg to ensure PaddleNSW have all logistics covered!

19.12.08 - Paddle NSW support Lifestart Kayak for Kids 2009!
PaddleNSW is an organisation run by a keen group of volunteers dedicated to providing member paddlers in NSW and the ACT with the best opportunities to pursue their sport or recreation. They will be offering participants personal insurance options, as well as training opportunities and professional boat scrutineering for the event, as well as some support paddlers for the course safety.

13.11.08 - Participants to Lifestart Kayak for Kids who raise over $500 by the date of the event will automatically go into a the draw to win a Dagger Safari kayak with paddle and flotation device valued at close to $1,000!
