Categories

There are 2 ways to participate to the Kayak for Kids event, either as part of the Teams Challenge or in the Bring-Your-Own Boat category.

Bring-Your-Own Boat

This can be completed in a single or double boat. You provide your own craft, paddles and PFDs and paddle the whole course (17.5km).

Authorised water craft:

There must be at least 3 entrants per category for the category to be recognised. Please note that this event is primarily a participation event with a focus on fundraising for Lifestart. As such there will not be separate categories within the "Other" type of kayak. There will however be professional timing and results.

Teams Challenge

3-person sit-on-top kayaks, paddles and Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs) are included in the entry fee for these categories. The kayaks are a Toy Boy Voyager III model which are very stable and suitable for all paddling abilities including complete novices.

Teams of 3: all male, all female or mixed teams (at least one male and one female, the 3rd team member can be either a male or a female). The team paddles the whole course of 17.5km.

Teams of 4-12: all male, all female or mixed teams (at least one male and one female make up the team and must paddle at least one leg of the course; the remaining people can be either gender). At all times 3 paddlers must be in the water on the 3-person kayak. You can change over any number of paddlers at any of the designated transition areas along the way in any combination. Paddlers can paddle more than one leg, one after the other or broken down. Paddle as much or as little as you can manage! There are a total of 4 legs.

Lifestart Corporate Challenge Cup

Lifestart throws down the challenge to every company in Australia to try and win the Lifestart Corporate Challenge Cup. The winning team’s company and team name (if different) will adorn the cup and the winning team gets to show off the cup in their workplace for twelve months.

Rules

The Lifestart Corporate Challenge Cup will be based on points gained in two criteria:

Fundraising: 1 point will be allotted for every complete $100 raised by a team (fundraising amounts will be judged on amount received either on-line or off-line by midnight, 25 March 2011).

Completion Time: 1 point will be allotted for every 10 minute unit under 3 hours (180 minutes) it takes to complete the course.

Teams must be comprised of at least three people with a maximum of 12 people. The winning team will be the one that finishes with the greatest number of accumulated points. In the case of a tie, the team that raises the most income will be the winner. In the case of there being both a points and a fundraising amount tie, the Lifestart Corporate Challenge Cup will be awarded jointly.

You can choose the Corporate Challenge Cup when you enter online. There is no additional charge to be part of the Corporate Challenge Cup.
