Solo Bring-Your-Own Boat
Follow these steps to create a fundraising page for a solo paddler:
1) Go to http://www.everydayhero.com.au/event/kayak_for_kids and click on the 'Build Hero Page' button.
2) Follow the instructions to create a username and password and register your details (make sure your email address is correct). Once completed, click ‘Create’.
3) Click the option ‘Create your individual page’.
4) Customise your page by choosing your page’s colour, uploading a picture of yourself or choose from an existing library, adding your fundraising target ($100 minimum for solo paddlers), writing a short profile about what you are doing etc… Once complete, make sure you click ‘Preview My Fundraising Page’ before going live – your Hero page is complete.
5) Start fundraising by emailing your friends, using the provided template. Or, you might find it easier to cut and past your URL link, create your own email in Outlook/Yahoo/Hotmail/Gmail, etc. and send it to everyone in your address book.
Teams Challenge/ Double Bring-Your-Own Boat
Follow these steps to start fundraising for a team.
The team leader should register the team first.
1) Go to http://www.everydayhero.com.au/event/kayak_for_kids and click on the 'Build Hero Page' button.
2) Follow the instructions to create a username and password and register your details (make sure your email address is correct). Once complete, click ‘Create’.
3) Click the option ‘Create a new team’.
4) Enter your team’s name, which could include your company’s name if it’s a corporate team, and password. Feel free to add some information about your team (eg. team members, company you are representing, etc.).
5) Choose from ‘One Team Page’ or ‘Many Team Pages’. This is up to you and your team to decide if you all want to fundraise using a single Team Page, or if each member wants to create their own Hero page to fundraise. Funds raised by team members on an individual Hero page will go towards the team’s fundraising goal. We recommend you choose ‘Many Team Pages’ as it will really empower each member to raise funds with their own network of family, friends and colleagues. Click ‘Continue’.
6) Enter the name and email address of each of your team members. Add as many members as are on your team. An automatic email will be sent to them so they can login and create their Hero page as part of your team.
7) Customise your page by choosing your page’s colour, uploading a picture of yourself or your team, or a company logo or choose from an existing library, adding your fundraising target ($300 minimum for teams of 3, $600 for teams of 6 and $1,000 for teams of 7-15), writing a short profile about what you are doing etc… Once complete, make sure you click ‘Preview My Fundraising Page’ before going live – your Hero page is complete.
8) Start fundraising by emailing your friends, using the provided template. Or, you might find it easier to cut and past your URL link, create your own email in Outlook/Yahoo/Hotmail/Gmail, etc. and send it to everyone in your address book.
Each team member will receive an email asking them to register online to start fundraising for the event. Each team member can follow the simple steps below to join their team.
1) Go to http://www.everydayhero.com.au/event/kayak_for_kids and click on the 'Build Hero Page' button.
2) Register your details (make sure your email address is correct).
3) Click on the option 'Join an existing team'. Then search for your team name, and input the team password. Both information are included on the email you received.
If the Single Team Page Option has been chosen (everyone fundraises off one team page)
4a) You will then be registered under the team name and listed on the page.
5a) Start fundraising using the team URL.
If the Multi Team Page Option has been chosen (everyone has their own individual fundraising page linked to the same team)
4b) You will be registered under the team name and listed on the page.
You will then be prompted to create your own fundraising page. Just follow the prompts.
5b) Start fundraising using your own URL.
Whether registering as a solo or a team, this whole process should only take you about 2-3 minutes. You can update your page anytime by logging in and then clicking on the ‘My Hero Account’ on the navigation bar and you can change anything you like here. Every time you log in that is where you go to update your page.

You can make a difference: remember, it's a great day for you, and a better lifetime for them!
Below is the minimum fundraising according to your category. Once you get started, you will quickly realise how easily achievable it is! Break it down, it's $100 or less per person. If 10 friends, family members or colleagues donate $10 each you are there already!
There will be prizes for the best fundraising teams (as of 10 April 2008), so get in the competition and start you fundraising now by creating your fundraising page on Everyday Hero <click here>
Below are some tips to help reach your fundraising team target:
To make your Hero Page as effective as possible, upload your own photograph, or one of your team, or even better, a video showing you in action. In your web page entry, try to tell a story: explain why you are trying to raise money, the specific uses the money can be put to and why you are personally moved to support your cause. Personalise your page!
You may be surprised by how deep your supporters will dig to help you get across the line to reach your goal. Raise as much as you possibly can for your chosen cause by trying to set an ambitious, but achievable target, higher than your minimum required fundraising goal.
Send an email to close friends, family, colleagues and those you think are likely to be your most generous supporters first, before asking others to donate. People tend to match the amounts already donated, so target your most generous supporters first!
Copy and paste the URL from your Hero Page (the Hero Page web address) into your own email system and then use this to contact your supporters. You can send out more emails at once like this, and also set up email groups.
Consider changing your email signature at work and/or at home to add a line at the bottom which includes the web address of your Hero Page.
In addition to close friends and family, don’t forget to contact any other groups you may have connections with: former colleagues, old school and college friends, friends who have moved out of the area or overseas, members of sporting clubs you belong to, or committees you are part of. If you are involved in business don’t forget to ask your suppliers, as they often like to show support.
People mean to donate, but sometimes it gets pushed to the bottom of the inbox and they forget. It usually takes more than one round of emails to nudge everyone into action, so don’t feel embarrassed about asking people again. To update your Hero Page, log in to My Hero Account and enter your Hero Name and Password (which you set when you set up your page). You can then change your Hero Page by posting a new photo or video and updating your entry: tell everyone how fit (or otherwise) you are feeling and how much money you’ve raised so far. Then re-send the link to your updated page by email.
Lots of companies encourage staff to participate in charitable events and fundraising, so ask your company if they are willing to include something about you on the company website or the intranet or company newsletter. Some companies offer a donation-matching scheme, where they will match the amount of money an employee raises.
Create a poster and put it up in the office kitchen, local supermarket, gym, post office, school or anywhere else you can get permission. Use the poster to ask people to visit your Hero Page and support you.
A surprising number of donations are received after the event has finished, so don’t stop fundraising when your event is over. Once you’ve recovered, update your Hero Page again and email it to your contacts. It’s a great way of letting those who have supported you know you have achieved your goal, and of prompting anyone who still hasn’t donated to do so. You can fundraise until 27 April 2008.
