Lifestart Kayak for Kids is an inspirational paddle on Sydney Harbour to raise funds for very special kids. These kids - aged from birth to 6 - have an intellectual disability or developmental delay, such as Down Syndrome and Autism. Lifestart provides early childhood services, to ensure these special kids have the best possible start in life.
The great thing about Lifestart Kayak for Kids is it’s a fun event on water that everyone can join in to. Whether you’re an experienced kayaker, someone who has never sat in a kayak before, whether you’re an adult or a kid … there are categories for everyone!
Solo & Double Categories: These are for paddlers who have their own craft.
Team Categories: These are for groups of from 3 to 12 people. Sturdy 3 seater kayaks, paddles and life vests are provided. The course is divided into four stages with three transition areas where teams can change paddlers. So for a team of 12, each paddler would only paddle approximately 4.5km.
Lifestart Corporate Challenge Cup (sponsored by Macquarie Real Estate): A supplementary category for company-based teams. Teams compete for points based on both fundraising totals and course time. The winning team gets to show off the cup in their workplace for 12 months! See Categories for full details.
Lifestart Kayak for Kids is the perfect event for family, friends or work colleagues to join in together. Alan and Therese Yeung paddled in the inaugural event in March 2008 with young Mia (7 years old) and Macy (4 years old) and said: “We had a lot of fun and will certainly be back next year!”
