This event has a huge amount of fantastic single track, is well marked and groomed and makes for a super fun and thrilling ride.
The 2012 course will be substantially the same as the 2011 course.
The 100km course will start at Kowen Forest on the Kings Highway side near Sparrow Hill. After experiencing the excellent but little known Kowen Forest tracks you then head through private land (you cannot access this at any other time other than during the event) and to the famous Majura Pines for a whole lot of "whoops" and excited hollers before heading to Black Mountain, past the Cork Plantation and into the world class Mt Stromlo tracks.
The 50km course will join the course at Campbell Park Offices, Northcott Drive, Ainslie and head into the Majura Pines.
NOTE: You may only ride a mountain bike along formed fire roads within the Nature Parks of Canberra. Walking tracks or any other narrow tracks may not be ridden unless they are also signposted as cycling trails.
For a google map showing the location of the 50km and 100km start, the finish and registration at Crowne Plaza <click here>.
There is an untimed (non-race) section of 9.5KM through bike paths and streets of Hackett, Ainslie and O'Connor. This distance is included in the total distance count for both races. You will have a maximum of 45 minutes to complete the untimed section. Any time you spend in the untimed section up to 45 minutes will be taken off your overall time. So if it takes you 32 minutes you will get 32 minutes taken off your time. If you take more than 45 minutes you will only get 45 minutes taken off your time. So if you take 55 minutes you will get 45 minutes taken off your time.
There is a combination of public land, forests, and private land. You will not be able to ride all sections of the course other than on race day. If you want to train on the course, head out and do the tracks at Stromlo Forest Park, Majura Pines or go exploring in Kowen Forest.
Feed stations for the 100km course will be located at 34km, 54km, 74km.
The feed station for the 50km course will be at 29km.
Each feed station will have water, Endura drink and a selection of Endura gels, Wallaby Bars, fruit buns, lollies and fruit.
For event logistics (buses, drop bags, etc.) please go to the Competitor Information page.
The KOM and QOM will be at the 47km mark on top of Hackett Hill. The first 3 male and females to this point will get KOM/QOM points and the winners will be awarded the KOM/QOM jersey at the presentation.
