Deuter Rat Race

A 6 and 12 Hour Urban Adventure

7 March 2009 - Sydney

The Deuter Rat Race is like doing your own Amazing Race. You get to choose what activities you will complete, how to best get around the course and how hard you really want to go. Over 12 hours (or 6 hours if you choose the Mouse chase option) your team of 3 will try to collect as many checkpoints as possible and complete as many challenges as possible. Checkpoints and challenges are worth different points. the winning team is that team that collects the most points. There is a lot of strategy and a lot of fun involved.

After 3 years in Canberra, 2008 will see the Rat Race move to Sydney and incorporate even more exciting surprises. Past events have had pancake making, tree planting, water sliding, curry past making, school exams and more. On top of that you also have the option to catch public transport.

You will navigate by foot, MTB and kayak and watch out for the odd surprise, including ropes! You will see the night lights, chase the kangaroos and have plenty of opportunities to stop for a coffee, a 3-course meal or a quick take-away on the run. Will you be tempted? Get together a team of 3 and find out!!

WHAT DO I NEED?

The Deuter Rat Race requires no support crew. Maps and instructions will be provided the evening before the event start. Boats, paddles, life jackets, maps and race instructions are all provided by AROC Sport.

Teams must be made up of 3 people. All 3 team members complete the course together. You start as a team of 3 and must finish as a team of 3. You can enter as a mixed, male or female team. Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each category - major prizes for the mixed category. There will also be lots of spot prizes but you must be at the presentation to collect your prize if your name is called.

The boats used for AROC Sport events are the Toy Boy Voyager III which are a 3 person sit-on-top plastic kayak. They are very stable and all 3 people paddle.
