NOTE: the equipment list has been updated as at 13 January 2008.
Download Equipment List <click here> .

The mandatory equipment is only the minimum required. You should consider taking additional equipment so that you are more properly equipped for the climate, conditions and activities. We have listed some recommended equipment but this is not exhaustive.

Bear in mind that although it is mid summer, the NSW South Coast can have extremes in weather – you might strike very hot conditions or it could be very cold and wet. Make sure you come prepared.

Random checks of mandatory equipment will occur during the race. There is a minimum penalty of 15 minutes per each item that you do not have.

Most equipment may be spread out and carried amongst the team. These items are classified as ‘on team' items. However there are some items that must be carried by each individual (NOT by other team members). These items as classified as ‘on person' items.

Some abbreviations that are used include:

pp – per person. i.e. one of these items is required for each person in the team.

qty – quantity. Your team must decide the quantity that is required (minimum of one).

Voyager III – 3 person sit-on-top kayaks, paddles and PFDs (personal floatation devices) are provided by the organisers. Each team will be issued 1 kayak, 3 paddles and 3 PFDs. You must use the kayaks provided. You may however use your own paddles and PFDs.

Items NOT permitted include:

Watches with altimeters are permitted.

If there are thing you need to get you can purchase then all through the AROC Shop – www.arocshop.com.au

Logistics

Kayaks are provided. These are 3 person sit on top plastic kayaks. You will be paddling these in the ocean, lake and river. You will need to be competent in steering in the surf and should be able to paddle grade 2 rapids.

In order to transport your gear to the various transitions each team must use plastic boxes. These must not be more than 65 litres in size. For the Edge of Reality (50 hour) there are 2 remote transition areas where these boxes will be delivered to. You will also come into the HQ area. For the Edge of Reason (25 hour) there is one remote transition area where you can access your box.

In each case you will see each Box twice during the event. Water will be provided at these transition areas so you do not need to pack this in your boxes. Exact requirements will be given to you with your maps and instructions the day before the event. In general however, you should include in your boxes food, spare socks, spare thermals, spare batteries, glow sticks, other compulsory equipment you might need to the relevant leg.

If you are camping / have a cabin at the HQ then you can go back to your tent/cabin during the transition here and do not need a plastic box. If you are not based at the HQ area you will need to provide a plastic box to keep your transition stuff together and dry.

Box A - HQ (This box will stay at HQ. If you want to keep your stuff with your tent/cabin you do not need to have a box here)

Box B - Remote Transition Area (1 x 65litre plastic box per team)

Box C - Remote Transition Area (1 x 65litre plastic box per team)

Edge of Reason (25 Hour)

Box A - HQ (This box will stay at HQ. If you want to keep your stuff with your tent/cabin you do not need to have a box here)
