Team 391 - Wamby Whoopers
Jo Hatton - Dora Creek, 2 April 2011

Just wanted to say thanks for an ace event! We had such an exhilarating, exciting and exhausting day, filled with much laughter, enthusiasm, and such a great sense of achievement at participating in such a challenging activity!

My two team mates, Ange and Tania were amazing....Especially Tania’s awesome stack, downhill, on her bike! Ange and I originally gave it a 7 out of 10 , but , on appeal , and seeing the size of the crater that caused Tania to go over the handlebars, both bike wheels pointing to the sky before landing on top of her, we were happy to change it to a 9....then thought we’d better help her up! ,

My contribution to the navigating went like this : T and A = “ I wonder where the fork in the track is? “ to which I replied “ right here, we’re standing on it ! “ in a bewildered tone ...only to receive withering ( yet smiley and supportive!) looks, along with “um...yeah...ON THE MAP , JO !! “ ooops!

we had all decided ( because of physical issues , such as dodgy knees etc, ) that we would walk... our enthusiasm got the better of us , and we found ourselves spontaneously running.... I loved the surprise in Ange’s voice when she said “ oooh, look at us we’re RUNNING...and UP a hill !!! “ .

Ange captained our kayak and did an amazing job at keeping us on course, despite her two team mates! We only crashed into the rocks once, and Ange , very quickly and cleverly , called out to the all-male crew that commented as they went by ..that “ it was a bonus checkpoint, just for girls...so ner! “ ...we then beat those boys to the next checkpoint!

So, once again, thankyou to AROC , and Paddy Pallin, for organising such a fantastic event, and thankyou to my wonderful
co-adventurers, Ange and Tania ( here’s to many more!)
