General Information

Following in the steps of the successful iRULE 12 Hour Urban Debacle 2007 comes the Rat Race 2009. If you haven't done the AROC 12 hour event before just ask those that have - this is the most awesome, most fun race you will ever do.

Canberra is the perfect setting for the Rat Race with lots of great tourist attractions and lots of bush and parkland surrounding the city areas. There are some great coffee shops - if you are going to stop for a cappuccino then it should be a good one - and we have heard that there are more restaurants per capita in Canberra then anywhere else in the world!! But there is also lots of bush close by so expect the best of everything.

In the previous urban events there has been world class MTB single track, waterslides, abseiling, kickbiking, free pizza, ten-pin bowling and more. But each race is different so there will be more surprises in this event.

The format of the course is a point score set up with checkpoints to be visited in any order by kayak, bike and on foot. The checkpoints may be part of an orienteering section or they may be a surprise activity. Checkpoints are worth different point values and it is up to you and your team to decide which checkpoints you will visit to gain a maximum number of points. You have 12 hours to get as many checkpoints as possible.

There is also a 6 hour option, the Mouse Chase, available for the teams wishing to take it a little easier.

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each category - mixed, male and female.

There will also be lots of spot prizes.

You (or for category prizes, a representative) must be present at the presentation to collect the prizes you win. Prizes will not be mailed out after the event.

Volunteers

If you are not participating in this event but would like to find out what it is all about why not volunteer for the day. Or if you are competing but you have family of friends that are keen to get into the action we would love their help. It is a big day but heaps of fun. In addition you get an AROC T-shirt, sports bars, lunch and a $60 voucher which you can use towards entry to any AROC event.

If you are interested in volunteering for this event email Alina or call 0401 564 462.
