AROC Sport will help Hartley Lifecare in their fundraising efforts for 2008 by donating a portion of money raised at the fun-filled 12 hour urban event, the Deuter Rat Race to be held on Saturday 15th March in and around Canberra.
Hartley Lifecare provide much needed accommodation, respite and community services to those living with a physical and complex disability in the Canberra and surrounding district for over 44 years. Each year Hartley rely heavily on donations and fundraising events to maintain their standard of services.
A highlight for those living at Hartley Court, one of the many Hartley residences, will be seeing the race participants calling in at their home which will be one of the checkpoint in the event.
The format of the course is a point score set up with checkpoints to be visited in any order by kayak (provided), bike, foot or even using the Canberra bus system! The checkpoints may be part of an orienteering section or they may be a surprise activity. Checkpoints are worth different point values and it is up to the teams to decide which ones they will visit to gain a maximum number of points within the 12 hours limit. There is also a 6 hours version of the race, The Mouse Chase for those who don’t want to be out there for as long.
The beauty of this event is that it really lets team decide how hard and how fast they want to go. If a cappuccino is what you’re after in the afternoon, feel free to stop by one of the many options the Capital City has to offer! If you’re in it for the podium, cram in as many challenges and go to as many checkpoints as you can!
