Race Information - updated 29 August 2006
This event is beautiful!! If you did the AROC Champs last season you will be a little familiar with the gorgeous beaches, coasteering and fantastic bush. Held in a similar area but a completely different course the first of the AROC Adventures for the season will be super fun.
This is an event for everyone - come give it a go and get your summer going.
Here are some photos from the race course to get those taste buds watering......
The event hub will be at the Umina Surf Club. Make sure you bring your swimmers to hang out in after the event. There will be a BBQ provided by the scouts and the Umina main street is only a 5 minute walk.
There is a special bonus leg for the first 20 teams which will add an extra an hour. This way it makes it challenging for everyone at all levels. So first teams should finish in around 3.5 hours and everyone else should finish within 4.5 to 5 hours. There is a cut off at 5.5 hours.
There are 7 legs and some of them combine a a couple of disciplines so come prepared for lots of action and keep your wits about you. If you add up the different legs the total distances will be between 4-6km kayaking, around 15-20km on the bike and between 7-10km on foot.
Disciplines include kayaking (kayaks, paddles and PFDs provided), mountain biking and running/walking and some surprises. You will be given maps and instructions at registration and it is up to you to navigate from checkpoint to checkpoint. Remember the whole team travels together.
Entry / Registration
Early bird entry is $240 per team of 3 persons. Early Bird entries close Saturday 2 September.
Entries after 2 September incur a late fee of $10 per person ($30 per team).

Registration
We recommend that you get to the registration early to make sure you have
time to look over the course and prepare your maps. You will need to come
to the pre-race briefing ready to start.
Only one team member needs to come to register for the team. That person must however have with them an indemnity form signed by the whole team and all the team and personal mandatory equipment. Print out the indemnity form and have it signed before you come to registration. Note that your whole team can sign one form. If you are under 18 years of age you will need to print off your own form and have this form signed by your parent or guardian.
At registration you will need to:
• Hand in your signed indemnity form
• Check your team details and make changes if necessary
• Have your mandatory gear checked (except bike lights & helmet)
You will receive:
• Maps
• List of control descriptions
• Control Card
• Course instructions
• 1 Sport Ident timing stick (must be returned after the event)
• 3 race bibs (these must be returned after the event)
Personal Mandatory Equipment

Team Mandatory Equipment
Each team must carry at all times during the event the following team mandatory equipment:
There may be random mandatory equipment checks during the event. there is a 15 minute penalty for any one item that you are not carrying.
Although not compulsory we STRONGLY RECOMMEND a 'Sea to Summit' brand A4 size waterproof map case or ALOKSAK to protect your maps. Nothing else will keep your maps dry. If you need to purchase any of these or any other adventure racing products go to www.arocshop.com.au. There will also be some available for sale at registration prior to the event.
AROC Sport will provide kayaks, paddles, life jackets, maps and instructions.
Race rules
Please read the race rules. Race Rules can be found under the heading "INFO" >"Rules" – or you can click here.
Event Hub
Registration, race start, finish, BBQ and presentation will all be at the Umina Surf Club at Umina Beach. You can access the surf club from either Sydney Ave or Ocean Beach Road. There is free parking at the surf club and on the surrounding streets.

For a more detailed map of the start area click

Umina is best accessed from the Woy Woy Road. If you are not familiar with the area check out www.whereis.com.au
Bike Drop
The bike drop is located at Pearl Beach - the next beach south of Umina. It is a 5 minute drive from Umina Beach to the bike drop. Click here to see the map.
You must bring all 3 bikes to the bike drop at the same time. You don't however have to have all 3 people there - you can even get someone else to drop them off for you but you had better get them to explain where they are!!
The bike drop will be manned from 7:30am on the Saturday morning. You may only leave your bikes, water bottles and bike shoes (if using them) at the bike transition. Once everyone has collected their bikes during the event this transition will be packed up. Anything you leave with your bikes at the bike drop must be taken with you when you leave that transition area in the race.
Take your bike helmets with you to the start - DO NOT leave them with your bikes.
Volunteers
If you are not participating in this event but would like to find out what it is all about why not volunteer for the day. Or if you are competing but you have family of friends that are keen to get into the action we would love their help. It is a big day (or night in this case!) but heaps of fun. In addition you get an AROC T-shirt, Power Bars, lunch and a $60 voucher which you can use towards entry to any AROC event.
If you are interested in volunteering for this event email Alina or call 0401 564 462.
