Competitor Update No. 2 - 21March 2006
Bike Info
We recommend puncture proofing for your tyres as there could be a few thorns on the course. We got cought by a patch of nasty 3 pronged ones when setting the course.
We also recommend that you use bike cleats (if you already use them) rather than flat pedals. This will mean that you may have to carry your running shoes but it will be worth it as the bike legs are long and there is single track.
At some stage you will need your lights for the bike. You might as well put them on your bikes from the start. That is leave them with your bikes at the bike drop. It will be 7 hours for the first teams to get to the HQ where your extra gear will be. That means many of you will be riding in the dark before you get to the HQ at Glebe Park.
Checkpoints
Some of the checkpoints will be a 2 letter code or require you to answer a question. You will need to write the coses/answers on your pre-laminated control card. We recommend that your compulsory permanent marker be a waterproof one. If it is wet there are very few pens that work so consider taking a spare piece of paper to write and transfer details to your control card later.
Rear Flashing Light for Kickbike
You will need to have a rear flashing light that you can attached to the kickbike or to your pack. You will get to the kickbike section after being on your bikes so will be able to use the same one you have on your bike.
Boxes at HQ
The gear list specifies 2 plastic boxes no bigger than 55 litres. Please note that only one is compulsory. You don't have to have 2 boxes unless you need the spare. One of your boxes may be an esky.
