There is a map and adventure race preparation session for novices at 6:30AM. If you have not done an AROC event before we suggest you attend this. Come to this with your maps, instructions, pens, highlighters etc.
The navigation session will take place on one of the busses taking you to the start. Please only go on this buss if you are a novice or really need the nav instruction. Otherwise take one of the other busses.
There are some bunk rooms and camping available at Outward Bound on the Friday night. If you want to take advantage of these book through Outward Bound directly through the accommodation form.
Just 30 minutes from Canberra is the sleepy town of Tharwa. But on 16 December it will be a hive of activity with the AROC Adventure. The usual fun AROC Adventure style in a totally new location. We have even found some water for you to paddle on!
For this event we would also like to welcome a special event partner, Outward Bound Australia. OB is the largest professional, independent, not-for-profit organisation engaged in personal development and outdoor education in the world. The head office for OB is in Tharwa and we are pleased to be working together with OB on this exciting event. This event is also part of OB's 50th anniversary celebrations so come show your support for this great outdoor non-for profit organisation.
It is an adventure race in teams of 3. You must complete the whole course together. The course is a surprise and you will get your maps and instructions at registration. For now however, what we will ell you is:
First teams are expected to finish in 2.5 hours and there is a cut off at 5.5 hours. There are lots of different legs so there is never too long at any one discipline. If you add up the different legs the total distances will be around 15 - 20km on the bike and between 7-10km on foot. It looks like we have also found some water to paddle on so expect a short kayak section of not more than 3km. There will also be a few surprises.
Disciplines include mountain biking and running/walking and paddling. You will be given maps and instructions at registration and it is up to you to navigate from checkpoint to checkpoint. Remember the whole team travels together.
Entry / Registration / Event Schedule
Early bird entry is $225 per team of 3 persons. Funds from the entry fee will be donated to Outward Bound. You may also make additional donations to Outward Bound by clicking here
Early Bird entries extended to Thursday 7 December 2006.
Entries received after this date incur a late fee of $10 per person ($30 per team). Late entries close Thursday 14 December 2006.
