Making a difference for people with a disability

Australia's most exciting urban adventure - don't miss it!
Complete as much or as little of the course as you want! Use either 6 or 12 hours to get as many checkpoints as possible and aim for a high point score or chill out in the coffee shop along the way.
General Information
The Rat Race is Back!!! If you like something a bit wacky, looking for a fun day out without any pressure with lots of different things to do - then this is your event! The create your own Amazing Race.
Canberra is the perfect setting for the Rat Race with lots of great tourist attractions and lots of bush and parkland surrounding the city areas. There are some great coffee shops - if you are going to stop for a cappuccino then it should be a good one - and we have heard that there are more restaurants per capita in Canberra then anywhere else in the world!! But there is also lots of bush close by so expect the best of everything.
In the previous urban events there has been world class MTB single track, waterslides, abseiling, kickbiking, free pizza, ten-pin bowling and more. But each race is different so there will be more surprises in this event.
The format of the course is a point score set up with checkpoints to be visited by bike (or bus!) in any order. The checkpoints may be part of a foot orienteering section, kayak or they may be a surprise activity. Checkpoints are worth different point values and it is up to you and your team to decide which checkpoints you will visit to gain a maximum number of points. You have either 6 hours or 12 hours to get as many checkpoints as possible.
New Categories
There are two special categories in the Mouse Chase 6 hour - the Schools Challenge and the Corporate Challenge. If you would like to nominate for either of these categories please email Alina.
To qualify for the Schools Challenge all 3 team members must be attending the same school. For the Corporate Challenge at least 2 members must be from the same company.
Headquarters
Headquarters will be at Glebe Park in the city off Corenderrk St. This is where registration will take place on the Friday night, where the start and finish is, where the post event BBQ will be and where presentation will happen. For a map of the area <click here>.
The Hartley Lifecare BBQ will be running at the headquarters at Glebe Park from 4pm. So hang around when you have finished, chat with the other teams and support Hartley Lifecare by grabbing a sausage or steak sandwich, vege burger and more.
Bikes
For both the Rat Race and the Mouse Chase you need to bring your bikes with you to the start at Glebe Park. There will be a bike transition at the headquarters where you can leave your bike during the event if you choose to run or bus somewhere.
There are no secure bike transitions at any of the challenges. You will need to bring and carry with you bike locks to secure your bikes during the day. You will not be able to see your bikes while doing many of the challenges or be able to take your bikes in with you. Security of your bikes is your own responsibility.
Prizes
Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each category - mixed, male and female.
There will also be lots of spot prizes.
You (or for category prizes, a representative) must be present at the presentation to collect the prizes you win. Prizes will not be mailed out after the event.
Volunteers
If you are not participating in this event but would like to find out what it is all about why not volunteer for the day. Or if you are competing but you have family of friends that are keen to get into the action we would love their help. It is a big day but heaps of fun. In addition you get an AROC T-shirt, sports bars, lunch and a $60 voucher which you can use towards entry to any AROC event.
If you are interested in volunteering for this event email Alina or call 0401 564 462.
