Rules for AROC Sport Adventure Racing Events

I. Each team must consist of 3 members.

II. Teams may enter either the mixed category (team must consist of at least one member of either sex), male category (all team members are male) or female category (all team members are female).

III. All teams must complete the courses as instructed and marked.

IV. No motorised forms of transport are allowed unless otherwise instructed.

V. Planned or pre-arranged outside assistance is not permitted at any time.

VI. All team members must complete the full course as a team and cross the finish line as a team.

VII. Team members must stay within 100m of each other at all times unless otherwise instructed.

VIII. All team members must pass within 20 metres of the checkpoint unless otherwise specified.

IX. All team members must go to the transition area unless otherwise instructed.

x. No littering – use a bin or take rubbish with you.

Prizes

I. Prizes will be awarded to each category (mixed, male and female) at each event. Organisers will have discretion not to award prizes where there are less than 3 teams in a category.

II. Major prizes and cash prizes will be awarded to the mixed category.

Bike Legs

I. An Australian Standard approved bike helmet must be worn by all competitors during any bike section.

II. Teams are responsible for their own bike maintenance and repair during the race.

Kayak Legs

I. No dragging of the kayaks at any time.

II. Teams are not permitted to use sails or kites during the kayaking portion of the event.

III. Teams are not permitted to use any type of equipment that in any way damages the kayaks.

IV. Teams are not permitted to add to or modify the kayaks in any way.

V. Teams are responsible for and must pay for any damage they cause to the kayaks during the event

VI. Each person must wear a personal floatation device (PFD) at all times during a kayak leg.

Swimming Legs

I. Each person must wear a PFD at all times when in, on or near the water.

II. Team members may be required to carry their PFD during other legs as directed in the event instructions.

Mandatory Equipment

I. Each team must carry with them one compass, 1 pencil, 1 permanent marker, an operational mobile phone, two crepe bandages, one emergency blanket (space blanket) and any other additional mandatory equipment required and listed for the particular event.

II. Each competitor must carry with them a whistle at all times and any other personal mandatory equipment listed for the relevant event.

III. Teams are responsible for ensuring their mobile phone is kept dry and secure.

Course

I. An event may be modified or cancelled at any time by the organizers due to bad weather, security or any unforeseen circumstances deemed suitable by the race organisers.

II. Competitors must follow the course and must comply with the spirit of the race.

III. Teams must visit the checkpoints in numerical order unless otherwise specified.

IV. Failure to visit a checkpoint or a transition area may incur a time penalty or disqualification of the team at the discretion of the race director.

V. The organisers may impose cut-off times and require slower teams to take an alternative route.

Insurance

AROC Sport has $10 million public liability insurance only. This insurance will only cover 3rd party injuries and 3rd party property damage. Competitors should consider obtaining personal insurance to cover themselves for injury during the event.
