AROC 24 Hour Goes Live!

AROC Sport

It looks like no one will be getting any sleep this weekend – if you are not racing then you will be up all Saturday night checking out the AROC 24 Hour live on the web. With a leaderboard, news reports and photo galleries continually being updated during the course of the event it will be just like you were there – well almost! Log on to www.arocsport.com.au and from Friday 5pm you will be automatically directed to the live site.

There are teams from all over in this years AROC 24 Hour - Victoria, NSW, ACT, South Australia, Western Australia and even Brazil! The competition in the top end should be interesting with the Ultimax Stingers (Damon Goerke, Rob Preston, Richard Mountstephens) and Accumen Alliance (Selina Stoute, Adrian Keough, Alex Ramsey) steadily becoming some of Australia’s top adventure racing teams going head to head with the more experienced Millie (Ian Stewart, Matt Acheson, Marina Reid). Super fast Dufflecoat Supreme (Adam Hunter, Steve Dowlan) have teamed up with Matt Koerber (TerraX) and will be a force to be reckoned with. Team AROC members Kris Clauson and Karl Strode-Penny have teamed up with former 400m Commonwealth Games runner Tony Bond. Karl is hoping experience will get him through rather than last minute training having just come back with a runny bum from a month in India riding a rickshaw (www.bbnewzealand.com). The navigation will be challenging which will put Team Knuckles in a good position with the experience of Keith Conley and the vigour of Shane Russell and Nathan Versey.

The all female team The Control Freaks (Susie Sprague, Heather Logie, Sara Hely) will be looking for a top 5 placing overall – they have done this before in the shorter events so it will be interesting to see how they perform over 24 hours. Heather is on strict instructions from beau Julian to not get scratched and bruised and not too tired as they are getting married the following weekend!

Our bet on some of the surprise teams are the Mondo Benji Dudes (Allan Landsdowne, Simon Davis, Philip Loong) that very sneakily seem to be getting better and better at each event they do. If Hugh Flower has been doing some secret training or at least team mates Simon Manson and Matt de Belin have the tow rope out then City Bike Desperados could have a look in. That is if they can stop themselves doing repeat loops on the single track sections!

Now the Happy Pants prize is out there for anyone but we hear rumours that Gazza from Team BIGFISH has had his team out there everyday training and preparing for this prize.
