News: 2006-2007 Season

28 April 2007
Mud, water jumps and smiles all round at the Raffertys Stockland Adventure Race
After a deluge of rain it cleared to reveal an exciting and mud filled course for the final race of the AROC season. Everyone overcame their fears and jumped in to the surging tunnel of water knowing big strong Tom was there to rescue them. City Bike Depot had a chance at the win but threw it all in by coming in late and loosing all their bonus leg points. Ultimax Stingers took out the event. Check out the Results and Photos.

iRULE 12 Hour Urban Debacle - 31 March 2007, Canberra
Tangerine rules the iRULE 12 Hour Urban Debacle
David Baldwin, Julie Quinn and Randall Fitzsimon mosied their way around Canberra, even stopping for 45 minutes to grab some lunch and wait for the bowling checkpoint to open. They didn't catch a bus, instead choosing to run an additional 10km and still convincingly won the race. Meanwhile, Dufflecoat Supreme's Adam Hunter, Steve Dowlan and Karl Strode-Penny where busting themselves trying to clear the course. They flew in the scrabble and pizza eating but took an unwise route to crawl through the Kid City and got sucked into stopping by Karl's house to pick up a few items for the bonus points and check on whether his twins had been born yet. Too many detours put them in second place. They only just beat the all female Control Freaks - Heather Logie, Susie Sprague and Selina Stoute. If the girls had only read their instructions properly to see that the bonus items - a few nuts and bolts to be collected along the way - could actually total 300 and not 50 points! Check out the results.... and photos

Koerber finally wins and 3 all female teams in top 6!

In his 27th attempt, Matt Koerber finally took his team to an outright win! Adrenalin Adventure TerraX (Matt, Tony Bond, Karl Strode-Penny) were first across the line by 36 minutes at the AROC Adventure in Canberra on 24 February 2007. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd female teams placed an exciting 4th, 5th and 6th overall. The all female Canberra Cockatoos (Shannon Jones, Anna Quayle, Mace Neve) where the first of these all female teams and had the fastest overall time for both orienteering legs! The Control Freaks were dealt a cruel blow with 2 slashed tires during the event. But with their never say die attitude they worked their way back to still come in second place in the female category with Adrenalin Adventure Mandatory Equipment taking out 3rd. Acumen Alliance were second overall. In bocca al lupo, who turned down the bonus leg in favour of getting the first steak sandwich, gave up one place overall but still held on to third in the male category. First mixed team, Team Knuckles, and third overall was led by the super steady Keith Conley with navigation expert Paul Ledbrook and Kathie Dent. Second and third places were Mixed Up and Muppets on Gu respectively.

Millie - Cool, calm and collected
It was a frantic night at Sydney Olympic Park last Saturday. A sold out capacity crowd with 110 teams, a totally different AROC style event and lots happening. But none of it fazed Millie (Jay Wilson, Zoe King and Ian Stewart) who remained calm and worked superbly as a team answering over 50 questions located around SOP and Putney to win the annual Sydney Olympic park AROC Adventure. Not far behind was Tronk - with Andy Hill doing some excellent nav and Richard Mountstephens finally roping in wife Katrin. The first male team Crank came in third overall and the all girls team "Kidnapped a Pommie Tourist" (better known as Control Freaks) came in 8th overall.

Ultimax Stingers blitz hot field at Narrabeen AROC Adventure
Robbie Preston led his team, the Ultimax Stingers (Rob, Peter Preston & Richard Mountstephens) to victory and one of their best races yet winning in 2 hours and 55 minutes against a super competitive field. Have a look at their terrific leg 4 time - orienteering through the newly burnt, thick terrain. Millie (Ian Stewart, Wazza Burgess, Zoe King) have come back to adventure racing with a well deserved 2nd overall and 1st in the mixed. Check out Millie's amazing bike leg time. The Hoot-Hers (Annalisa McKay, Alison Curtin, Tsalina Phang) screamed into the finish to win the female category and an impressive 9th overall. Check out the results. Holimage photos now up. Look out for some very blackened faces! Check out the report.
